MARKET REPORT
Ferrous
The Asian TEX Box fell in October and November, and ended the year on a low-down more than US$100 a tonne on the highs of 2009.
January and February have seen small increases, and the indication is that scrap prices are on the rise. This is due to increases in commodity prices and China's improving economy.
$AUS continued to rise sharply through October and November, bar a slight dip in December and February. It is currently hovering around $0.91c plus.
Non-Ferrous
Stainless Steel
Japanese production of stainless steel picked up in August and September, and we saw a rise in the stainless price through this period. Production has since slowed, and prices fell back to their lows of early 2009 to close the year on a downward trend.
The overall stainless steel production in Japan is down significantly since last year and the overall outlook is not positive. Nickel is still around US$18,000 / tonne down from US$55,000 / tonne in September 2008.
Aluminium
Positive signs for Aluminium since December, with a steady increase in the price since December 1. Stock levels are high, but reducing slightly.
Copper
All indications are that the highs in copper prices are a bubble which has to burst at some stage in the near future. However copper has been high for several months, and we expect further rises to pre October 2009 levels.
Lead
The Lead price continued to rise through December, and shows no signs of abating. As a hash Northern Hemisphere winter takes hold, the demand for batteries is increasing due to the extreme cold weather. If you have a stock pile of batteries in the yard or factory now would be the time to bring them in.

Hallam Yard Upgrade
The Hallam yard is set to undergo changes in the Ferrous area in 2010. The block will be leveled, crushed rock applied, concrete drop off bays added and a manned weighbridge office built - making for a more streamlined operation.
The changes will not only make delivery and payment simpler and easier, it will also save time for both our customers and staff.
We will advise of any disruption to normal trading in advance of any major works commencing.
