FMR News - September Quarter 2009

Welcome to the latest edition of Future Metals Recycling News. Global markets are stabilising, demand is increasing and this is reflected in prices paid for most products at the moment.

Future metals recycling has begun an intensive advertising campaign designed to build brand awareness, and this month we profile Shepparton's Ken 'Coxie' Cox.

MARKET REPORT

Ferrous

Markets for ferrous are looking stronger than for the same time last year having stabilised after a volatile first quarter.

The TEX price is on the increase with steady rises over the last three months, partly due to low volumes. Prices have been strong but slightly offset by the strengthening AUS$. The AUS$ improved April through June and has been steady around the US$0.80 since. The AUS$ is currently trading at 0.864 USD.

We do expect a weakening TEX price leading into October which may see prices drop once again.

The TEX price used to calculate rebates is based on the average of the TEX Box price and the average of the AUS$ for the preceding month less US$50 sea freight.

Non-Ferrous

Stainless steel prices remain steady, while Aluminium has dropped owing to rising stock levels in overseas warehouses.

On the positive side, copper is up, coming off highs and having doubled to an 11 month high during August. Analysts predict that Copper prices will remain high through the rest of September and into the next quarter.

Lead is also up this quarter. Good prices are being paid for batteries at the moment, so bring them in!

International news in brief
The US this week released better than expected economic data which is expected to impact on markets around the world. Global markets are becoming cautiously optimistic.

According to Bloomberg.com growth is recovering faster than expected. It reports:

"We remain most constructive on copper" because "higher leverage to robust Chinese growth and limited spare production capacity" will drive prices up more than for any other industrial metal, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. analysts led by Janet Kong and Jeffrey Currie said in a report last week.

FUTURE METALS RECYCLING NEWS

Advertising
Future Metals has ramped up its advertising in both Melbourne and country areas to increase brand awareness.

Our TV advertisements have been running across Metro Melbourne since July 2009, targeting tradespeople and encouraging delivery (door trade) through our Hallam, Dandenong and Shepparton sites. The ads are on during high profile shows such as Today and the Sunday Footy Show. You can see the ad here - or wait until you spot it on the TV.

If you listen to Sports 927 you may have heard our radio ads. They are currently running in Metro and Country areas at the moment. Listen out for Ray Warren's sports wrap between 8am-9am on Wednesday and you'll hear the ad.

This ad targets tradespeople, manufacturers, engineering companies and farm clean ups and is having a great response in Country areas. Ray agreed to voice the advert - which is great as he reserves his voiceovers for a chosen few - thanks Ray!
